Hear, see, enjoy
NXP Software’s audio and video playback products integrate advanced technologies, based on more than 30 years’ experience in embedded video processing and enhancement for TV, as well as a decade of video on mobile.
We also have a strong heritage in digital rights management (DRM). Over the years we have developed DRM solutions including products implementing the OMA (Open Mobile Alliance) DRM specification. Today, our software supports key content access technologies such as Microsoft PlayReady and other popular content protection schemes.
Adaptive streaming and intelligent buffering
Consumers expect smooth, uninterrupted playback of content over any network – 3G, 4G, Wi-Fi. Our adaptive streaming and intelligent buffering techniques analyze and anticipate network behavior and CPU load. By continuously ensuring the video frame rate matches the available bandwidth and resources, these techniques prevent re-buffering, and jumps or freezes in the video playback.
- Rapid switching between bandwidths
- Support for Apple HLS and Smooth Streaming
Motion estimation and compensation
The quality of video playback on mobile devices can suffer as the result of factors such as low frame rate. Our video playback solutions integrate post-processing techniques drawn from the TV world to deliver living-room quality on mobile devices. These include motion compensation and estimation technology which interpolates frames to give crisper, smoother video and brighter colors.
- TV picture enhancement technology on mobile devices
- Sharp images even in fast-moving scenes
Audio processing
Living-room sound systems bring audio to life with all its vibrancy, spatial qualities and emotional impact. We have extensive audio processing and enhancement technologies to deliver the same digital quality experience from mobile devices – including 5.1 and 7.1 home cinema style surround sound.
We build these technologies into solutions for all major platforms, plus we have specific technology expertise in audio for Android. We have co-developed the Android audio effects framework (since the Gingerbread release).
- Audio enhancement and processing technologies including multi-channel virtualization
- Dedicated music effects technologies for Android devices
