2-Mic noise suppression in speakerphone mode

The new major release of VoiceExperience supports 2-microphone noise suppression in speakerphone mode, which effectively suppresses background noise while keeping your voice clear and natural. Speakerphone mode calling is used more and more by consumers these days as a replacement of the traditional handset mode. For example, during a phone call, consumers use their smartphone to do something else that requires the touchscreen. Furthermore, consumers increasingly use their smartphone with multiple people at the same time, to call a third person (mini-conference). Even beyond regular voice calling, consumers start using voice-operated services like Apple Siri and Google Now. Although most of the speech recognition technology is running on the server side, the voice enhancements required to enable these services are running on the mobile device and they are largely similar to those used for voice calling. Effective noise suppression is needed to improve the speech recognition performance and echo cancellation is required in case the phone is playing music over its built-in loudspeaker. The two graphs below show the improvement of the Signal-to-Noise ratio (SNRi) of the 2-mic noise suppressor in speakerphone mode, as a function of the noise level at the Mouth Reference Point (MRP). In this setup, the phone is located flat on the table in front of the talker (i.e. desktop speakerphone mode), at a distance of 50 cm from the MRP. The speech level is 89 dB SPL at MRP.
