Qualcomm – NXP Software partnership
NXP software has been participating in the Qualcomm Hexagon™ Access Program since its conception in 2011, enabling us to deliver industry-leading LifeVibes multimedia algorithms pre-integrated on Qualcomm Snapdragon and Gobi platforms. This is pre-integration is done on Qualcomm’s Hexagon DSP resulting in optimized performance and battery lifetime and allowing rapid deployment by mobile device makers.
Member Qualcomm Hexagon Access Program
In joining the Qualcomm *Hexagon Access Program, NXP Software brings an extensive set of market-proven products to the latest Snapdragon platform. Deployed in nearly two billion devices, LifeVibes products offer fast time-to-market and measurably superior quality, backed by worldwide support. By optimizing NXP Software’s algorithms for the Hexagon DSP, we are integrating computationally intensive multimedia processing in the most suitable location in the system. This leads to lower overall power consumption, enabling device makers to offer consumers exciting and distinctive features with less battery recharging.
Mobile Heterogeneous Computing in Action
Mobile heterogeneous computing is enabling breakthrough experiences. Watch the interview Qualcomm had with Nicolas Sauvage, Marketing and Sales Director, OEM Business Line, at NXP Software. In this interview, Nicolas explains how we deliver an improved voice experience in the always-on use case. NXP Software takes advantage of the processing power of Qualcomm Snapdragon by running voice and listening algorithms on the Hexagon DSP (as opposed to using one of the Krait CPU cores) to deliver both performance improvements and power savings. NXP Software participated at Qualcomm Uplinq 2013 in San Diego, CA. We demonstrated VoiceExperience 4.0 featuring a 2-microphone noise suppressor and acoustic echo cancellation that works both in handset and speaker mode. A second demo was a live VoIP call using Samsung ChatON between two Galaxy S4s over WiFi. Even with 1-mic noise suppression, the call was crisp and clear, as you would expect from a wideband VoIP call. Both demos featured NXP Software’s voice solution on the Hexagon DSP on Qualcomm Snapdragon. View information and videoclips on the Uplinq 2013 page.
Hexagon™ (QDSP6) is a DSP-based multithreaded CPU architecture developed by Qualcomm. The Hexagon architecture is designed to deliver performance with low power over a variety of applications. Hexagon DSPs are included in Snapdragon SoC since 2006. Multiple Hexagon cores are available in Snapdragon S4 and the most recent Snapdragon 200, 400, 600 and 800 series. Snapdragon™ is a family of mobile systems on a chip (SoC) by Qualcomm. Qualcomm considers Snapdragon a “platform” for use in smartphones, tablets, and smartbook devices. Qualcomm Gobi™ 3G and 4G modems offer connectivity to HSPA/UMTS, EDGE/GPRS/GSM and EV-DO/CDMA mobile networks.
